Leather Laptop Bags – What You Should Know Before Buying One

Did you know that genuine leather laptop bags are often very expensive? That is a fact, and yet very few people have the knowledge to distinguish between genuine leather laptop bags and replica bags. Replica leather bags are actually made from faux leather (a very poor quality leather), and as a result are virtually indistinguishable from the genuine article. Nevertheless, the genuine leather laptop bag has a much higher price tag attached to it, so if you were looking for an all around bag, a replica would probably not be your best option.

There are two different grades of leather which are used in making full grain leather laptop bags. These grades are Top Grain and Full Grain. The difference between these two grades is the texture. Top grain leather has the most elasticity, which allows it to mold to the shape of a user’s hand. This is why it is often used on models of laptops. The downside to buying a Top Grain leather laptop bag is that it can also be very heavy, so if you intend to carry it a lot, it might not be the best choice.

Full Grain leather is generally regarded as being a high-quality leather; it has more elasticity than Top Grain leather, and it is relatively stronger as well. One reason why Top Grain leather laptop bags are more popular is because they are generally cheaper than Full Grain bags. As mentioned above, due to its elasticity, Full Grain leather laptop bags can mold to the shape of your hand, which can help prevent against the bag tearing at the seams. If you plan to carry a laptop around for long periods of time, then a bag with a full grain leather exterior is definitely an excellent choice.

The last type of leather laptop bags we’ll discuss is the faux, or simulated, leather laptop bags. These bags are made with a plastic, vinyl, or leather exterior, but they are not leather in actuality. Because the name “faux” conjures up thoughts of cheapness, this may not be the best choice for a professional designer to carry around. However, many students and business people use faux leather laptop bags because they are inexpensive, durable, and easy to clean.

With that being said, when shopping for a laptop bag, it is important to know the difference between the various types. You should first consider the thickness and durability of the bag in question. If the bag you’re considering costs roughly the same amount as a good old fashion leather briefcase, then it is probably a good idea to opt for the faux type. While it may not have the same stigma as real leather, you can be sure it will last just as long.

One final thing to think about is the type of lifestyle you lead. If you plan on using your laptop often, then you might want to go with a full-grain leather backpack. On the other hand, if you are more interested in carrying around your books, then you might be happier with something like a mesh back pack or a nylon backpack. It all really depends on your own personal preference and the type of person you are.
